Committed Hypnus helps with Coronavirus Patients Treatment

The outbreak of Coronavirus-19 (nCoV-19) appeared in Wuhan, China, at the end of 2019. The global priority, since then, has been to stop a possible pandemic. As citizens of the world, all countries have worked to prevent outbreaks within their borders. Given the disparities in migration controls between countries, there has been widespread fear of contagion of their nationals. This fear is not unfounded; since the protocols for the prevention and management of these outbreaks by our countries in Latin America, in some cases, are not the most ideal nor rigorous.

Back to China, although we do not know the precise causes of the origin and treatment of the disease related to this nCoV-19 virus; what we do know is that is an acute respiratory condition (Wuhan Pneumonia), easily spreading and has spread to about 80,000 people, globally, with a mortality close to 2,200 people. Specifically in Hubei province of Central China, whose capital is Wuhan, the number of infected people reaches 96% of confirmed cases. The solidarity of its people and companies has not waited to help alleviate this situation. In our case, we want to highlight that Hypnus, being a small company, has made a great effort to donate 800 units of its ST830 Non-Invasive Ventilator, precisely for the Province of Hubei.

We are honored, in MR Sleep US, to represent Hypnus in Latin America. Hypnus is a manufacturer of Positive Pressure and Non-Invasive Ventilation devices; which are used for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Respiratory Diseases or Respiratory Support in patients with Neuro-muscular Diseases. One of the reasons why Hypnus donated this particular model, is that its devices has the Volume Assured tool (iVOPS); which guarantees a ore-established tidal volume in patients with respiratory difficulties, such as those caused by Wuhan Pneumonia; but still handle spontaneous breathing, even if they do it with great difficulty. This helps prevent patient intubation, avoiding possible congestion of Intensive Care Units (ICU). Allowing ICUs to deal with cases that really require Life Support Ventilation through an Endotracheal Tube.

Countries, in case of requiring devices for the treatment of possible infected patients, can count on companies such as Hypnus that have the technology to help alleviate this situation.

Are you experiencing opioid related sleep disorder? ASV PAP, a possible solution

If you have ever experienced severe pain, whether due to injury or illness, your doctor may have given you a prescription for opioids.  Opioids can be very successful at treating severe pain, but they do come with side effects. One of those side effects is Opioid Induced Central Sleep Apnea, or CSA. If you are suffering from an opioid related sleep disorder, some of the symptoms you may be experiencing include prolonged obstructive hypoventilation, obstructive apnea and hypopnea, and a mixed pattern of sleep disordered breathing. However, it’s important to note that these side effects are most commonly associated with long-term use of opioids.
Although these symptoms do not tend to resolve on their own, and optimal treatment is unclear, Adaptive Servoventilation (ASV) treatment study data has shown improvement in certain patients.  Adaptive Servoventilation, or ASV, is a non-invasive airway pressure device. This device works by tracking airflow in a three to four minute window, continuously throughout the night, stabilizing the respiratory drive by providing pressure support and adjusting respiratory parameters to maintain 90% of the calculated peak flow.

Hypnus company has launched its PAP device model SV825W specifically to treat patients with this kind of pathologies. More information about Hypnus products www.mrsleepus.com/

Snoring is not just a sound…

For most people Snoring is part of their lives. But snoring is not just a sound. Snoring is a sign. It could mean that the breathing airway is partially or totally blocked.

Depending of the severity, that obstruction can become a very serious sleep disorder; called Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).

For mild cases of Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Life changes could help, like:
• Lose Weight
• Exercise
• Quit Smoking
• Use Allergy medication
• Do not sleep on your back.

For more moderate to severe cases, the Positive Air Pressure (PAP) is the most recommended therapy.

More invasive techniques are available to treat the Obstructive Sleep Apnea, among them are procedure like surgical removal of tissues within the airway. Another way to treat is trying to move the jaw of the patient to the front, creating more room for the air to pass through.

Hypnus announced the launch of the Serie 8 PAP devices

This past June, Hypnus announced the launch of the Serie 8 PAP devices

These new line allows to treat conditions such as Complex Apneas and Cheyne-Stokes; as well as other respiratory pathologies such as COPD or Neuromuscular diseases, including Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Something innovative is that our equipment can detect and treat the Ataxic Breathing Pattern (BIOT Respiration); produced by neuronal disorders induced by the use of opioid. For this we have the ASV and Auto ASV modes; as well as the tool for Volume Assured in spontaneous ventilation iVOPS.
